1. Name the creature mentioned in the poem.

Ans: The creature mentioned in the poem is snail.

2. Who do you think is the speaker?

Ans: The poet Fleur Adcock and her child.

3. Who is the speaker addressing?

Ans: The poet addressing to her child.

4. What does the child want his mother to see?

Ans: The child wants his mother to see the snail.

5. What does the mother tell the child?

Ans: To carry snail outside with careful and to feed the snail with daffodils.

1. Why does the mother say ‘a kind of faith prevails?’

Ans:  It is commonly believed that character is built rather by words or advice, than by imitation of what others actually do. Of course, this is not true; it is only a prevailing belief, not based on the truth.

2. How has the mother treated other animals?

Ans: She has trapped mice and shot wild birds and drowned kittens and betrayed the closest relatives.

3. Do you observe any difference between the mother’s treatment of the snail and her treatment of other animals and her own relatives?

Ans: She shows great kindness towards the snail but in other hand she trapped the mouse shot the wild birds and betrayed the closest relatives.

4. How does the mother console herself? Read the last two lines and comment.

Ans: The last two lines tell us about the contradictions in our dealings. There is a difference between what we preach and what we really practise.
