1. Why did Upagupta wake up startled?

Ans: Upagupta wake up startled because he was touched by the feet of a dancing girl.

2. “Dancing girl was rich” Do you agree with this opinion?

Ans: “Dancing girl wore tinkling anklets” and “starred with jewels”. So I agree that the dancing girl was rich. 

3. Why do think the ascetic did not accept the invitation of dancing girl?

Ans: Because he wants to lead a life of ascetic . Also he thought that it was not suitable to go to the house of dancing girl.

4. How is the spring season described in the poem?
Ans: In spring season, the branches of the trees were full of blossom. Happy songs of a flute came floating in the warm spring air from a distance.
 
5. “The time at last come to visit you.” What do you understand by this?
Ans: I understand that Upagupta was a man of principles and he kept his promise and served her when she was in need of help.
 
6. Read the line 38 to 41. Does the description suggest anything about the ascetic?
Ans: The description suggests that the ascetic was truthful, kind, man of principles and merciful.

II. Complete the summary of the poem Upagupta.
 
Ans:Upagupta a Discipline of Buddha, goes from one place to another. Once while he is sleeping in a small town called Mathura, a dancing girl wakes him up and invites to her home. Upagupta refuses, but tells her, “I will visit you when the time is ripe.”
        A year later, Upagupta finds the dancing girl lying on the ground outside the town, having sores all over the body. She is driven away from the town. He gives her water and applies balm on her body. The woman asks who he is. Upagupta replies, “Now the time has come to visit you and I am here”.
